Neuro Emotional Technique

What is Neuro Emotional Technique (NET)?
It’s your answer to “why can’t I just let it go?” and “how will I ever get past this?”
Neuro Emotional Technique is a method of finding and releasing emotional stress in the body that causes trouble in the form of physical pain, ruminating thoughts, or habits you can’t seem to let go of.
When we hold onto emotional stress, we can feel the weight or tension of it in our bodies. We also tend to make decisions based on these trapped emotions, meaning we react from emotions like fear and anger, even when we know better or desire to respond differently.
Normally, we are able to experience an emotion and let it go. We do this all day, every day. But sometimes we’ll experience an event that is very emotional, stressful, confusing, or unsafe, and the emotions from that event get “stuck” in our bodies - literally, the information from the emotion that causes a physical, bodily reaction remains in the body and will continue to express itself whenever we encounter similar situations. This is what a “trigger” is. By addressing the emotional root cause, NET can bring relief from physical and emotional discomfort.

Neuro Emotional Technique uses concepts from manual muscle testing, traditional Chinese meridians, and modern psychology to uncover, understand, and release these emotional stressors so they are no longer affecting how you physically feel, think, or respond to certain situations.
It rewires patterns in your brain and body so that you no longer:
- Feel affected by triggers
- Feel the physical pain related to the emotions
- Feel out of control of how you respond to any situation
Key Benefits
Reduced Physical Pain
Emotional stress can live within our tissues, especially when associated with an injury. Releasing the emotional pattern using NET can reduce or resolve pain in the body, even when it has been there for decades.
Mental Clarity
When our mind and body are not working in harmony, it can be distracting and, frankly, annoying. NET can be used to work through emotional stress around ruminating thoughts, brain fog, and releasing blocks related to your needs and desires.
Change in Behavioral Patterns
Our survival brain tends to keep us in behavioral patterns even when those patterns no longer serve us. By using NET, we can dissect those behavioral patterns so that we can show up to any situation the way we want and intend. This is especially helpful in children who might be too young to understand their experiences. They are still able to process their emotions and shift their behavior.
Trauma Processing
When it comes to processing our experiences, the only way through it is through it. NET can be an effective and gentle way to allow the body to process your experiences so that you are able to release the weight of trauma and feel that it is no longer in control of your life. It is not necessary to spend hours talking about your experience with NET. We can create a lasting shift with minimal discussion.
Let Go of Unwanted Habits
Most unwanted habits have an emotional grip on us or were the product of a survival decision. Either way, if it is no longer serving you, we are able to unlock the core patterns keeping you in this habit using NET so that you can shift out of this habit and into habits that do serve you.
Prepare for Anticipated Events
Anticipating future events can hold anxiety and other emotions. NET can get to the root of this anxiety and allow the feelings to process out of the body so that you can show up to these events feeling present, grounded, and stress-free.
Release Recurring Dreams/Nightmares
Dreams are rooted in the desire for subconscious understanding. NET can be used to allow the body to complete the processing around any issue or pattern the dream continues to bring up, releasing the dream or nightmare from recurring and allowing you to sleep more peacefully.
Overall Peace and Well-Being
NET can release many different patterns, stressors, and pains, restoring trust in your body and providing the ability to “let it go”, whatever “it” is to you. The sky is the limit with what NET can help with. It may be the missing piece to your healing and overall well-being.
What to Expect
During a NET session, we will work on any struggles or pain that you want to work on. You DO NOT need to know why you are feeling the way you are or have any details about the issue. All you need to know is that something doesn’t feel right.
At your initial visit, we will talk about your goals with NET and I will then create an individualized care plan for you. This plan will be a guide for us whether you decide to have one session or commit to a full care plan.
We will start each session with the symptom, struggle, or issue, using manual muscle testing and the NET protocol to uncover the emotional root of the issue. NET is not talk therapy - there is minimal discussion during a session. In fact, I don’t even need to know any specific details, so if there is an issue you want to work on but it feels too vulnerable to talk about, we can use NET to process the feelings from your body without talking about it. As long as you can feel it, we can release it.
After a session, your body will continue to process the released emotions, so you may feel a little more emotional than normal for a few days. Think of it this way – in the sessions, we are removing the emotional thorn in your body, but the wound still needs some time to heal.
More than one session may be needed to release all aspects of an emotional stressor or event, which is why the care plans can be useful. They are never a contract, only a recommendation.
You are in charge of your healing. I am only here to help facilitate where you feel stuck.
Understanding the Science
The two regions of the brain at play here are the limbic brain and the prefrontal cortex. The limbic brain consists of 4 parts, including the amygdala (responsible for the fight/flight response) and the hypothalamus (producer of hormones like oxytocin). The limbic system is where our emotions and intuition come from and where our memories are stored. It works fast, almost instantly, remembers every threatening thing that has ever happened to us, and has connections into the body – it has nerve pathways that influence our digestion, heart rate, breathing, and hormone production. The limbic brain is mostly subconscious, and because it has such a strong influence over the body, we consider it the “body” side of “mind-body work”. This part of the brain is designed for survival.
The prefrontal cortex is our thinking brain, responsible for logical, analytical, conscious, complex thought. It is much slower than the limbic brain and while precise and intelligent, it does not have the influence over the body that the limbic brain has. This is the “mind” side of “mind-body work” and has an important play in Neuro Emotional Technique. This part of the brain is designed for understanding.
It does not matter if you consider yourself “right-brained” or “left-brained”, emotional or logical. We all have these two opposite parts, and they work best when working as a team.
These two parts of the brain have evolved to work really well together. The prefrontal cortex (unique to humans) evolved to understand the gut reactions felt through the limbic brain. But sometimes, these two parts become incongruent or disconnected after certain experiences or events. This is why a soldier who heard bombs in a war zone would have a similar response to hearing fireworks sitting in their own backyard. While they may know they are safe, their body still has a response to the trigger that they don’t have conscious control over. On the more intense side of this disconnect is PTSD. On the less intense side live our daily stress and worries.
Neuro Emotional Technique works to connect these two parts of the brain so that they work in harmony. We work with the limbic system to understand what it is stuck on, then allow processing through the body so that we can shift that pattern. It’s essentially allowing the body to catch up to where the mind is, restoring the connection. The reason it might not do this on its own is that the limbic brain is missing a piece that it needs to process to let the stress pattern release. We can figure out this missing piece using NET.
NET is a research-based technique. You can read into the research here.
